Code practitioners are always looking for examples that they can apply and adapt for their programs and cases. As part of researching and writing our Strategic Code Enforcement book, we compiled a wide array of code enforcement forms, checklists and legal documents based on Doug and Diane’s work in California along with highlighting cases from the City Attorney Offices of Los Angeles and San Francisco. We also curated a brief list of supplemental resources that readers can use to dig deeper into many of the strategies and topics that we touch upon throughout the book. Several of these resources are also listed in footnotes in the book. The resources and examples are organized by common issues and stages found in most code enforcement processes.
Instead of printing these sample forms and documents in a lengthy appendix, we developed a virtual, on-line compendium that you can find as a PDF by clicking on this link.
The compendium include a range of these types of documents:
-
CE POLICIES AND PROCEDURES GUIDES & MANUALS
-
INSPECTIONS AND INVESTIGATIONS
-
NOTICES & ORDERS, CITATIONS, AND ADMINISTRATIVE HEARING ORDERS
-
COURT PLEADINGS, DOCUMENTS, AND CHECKLISTS FOR SPECIALIZED CASES
-
NATIONAL AND REGIONAL CODE ORGANIZATIONS AND PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATIONS
-
GENERAL CODE ENFORCEMENT REPORTS, PUBLICATIONS, HANDBOOKS, ETC.
All cities do things a bit differently depending on their ordinances and common practices and procedures, so carefully review these examples as they will require revising and updating as policies, processes, and the law are constantly evolving. A good practice is to review and adapt these examples in consultation with your code attorney.
If you have any questions or comments or have examples that you would like to contribute to this compendium, please reach out to the contact information listed on the Strategic CE Management Academy website.
